Our History
The City of Cold Lake and the Cold Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce has a rich history, from Indigenous First Nations and Métis residents, to the settlers and their families who made their lives in northeast Alberta.
1920-30's
Legacy
Originally called the Cold Lake Board of Trade, the organization was an amalgamation of the Cold Lake and Grand Centre business communities. The Board of Trade’s legacy was a desire to build a strong economy across northeastern Alberta.
1939-45
Disbanded
The Cold Lake Board of Trade disbanded during World War II to focus on the war effort.
1945
Revival
At the end of war in 1945, the Cold Lake Board of Trade was revived. Under President Bill McGillivray, it served as a WW2 revival post.
1956
First President & AGM
In 1954, the Cold Lake Board of Trade named its first President, Don Forseth. Two years later, it held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 1956.
1977
Amalgamation
The Cold Lake and Grand Centre Chambers amalgamated to form the Grand Centre and District Chamber of Commerce.
1997
Name Change
In 1997, the Grand Centre and District Chamber of Commerce went through a final name change to become the Cold Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce. The name change was in preparation of the amalgamation of the towns of Cold Lake and Grand Centre which happened the following year in 1998.
